He speaks English fluently, having been taught by his paternal grandmother. André is married to Joana Maria Noronha de Ornelas Teixeira, with whom he has three children.
André’s paternal grandfather was D. Gonçalo Manuel Coelho Vieira Pinto do Vale Peixoto e Sousa de Vilas-Boas (the son of Dom José Geraldo Coelho Vieira Pinto do Vale Peixoto de Vilas/Villas-Boas, 1st Viscount of Guilhomil and Mariana Teodora Correia Moreira Ribeiro de Lima Barreto). André’s grandfather D. Gonçalo’s brother was José Rui Villas-Boas, Viscount of Guilhomil. The title was given to André’s great-grandfather by King Carlos I, in 1890. The 1st Viscount was the son of Margarida Pinto do Vale Peixoto de Sousa e Vilas-Boas.
André’s paternal grandmother was named Margaret Neville Kendall. Margaret’s mother moved from Cheadle, Cheshire, England, to Portugal, to start a wine business. Margaret’s brother, Douglas Kendall, was a wing commander for the RAF during WWII.
