Boise artist makes history with fourth US Capitol statue honoring civil rights hero

Boise, ID (CBS2) An artist from Boise has done something no other living artist has done. Boise artist Benjamin Victor now has four larger-than-life statues at the US Capitol. The state of Arkansas commissioned Victor to create a statue in tribute to Daisy Gatson Bates, an unsung hero of the civil rights movement.

The state of Arkansas commissioned Victor to create a statue in tribute to Daisy Gatson Bates, an unsung hero of the civil rights movement.

Bates was a mentor to the Little Rock Nine, a group of Black students who were the first to desegregate schools in Arkansas and break the color barrier.

The Statue was installed on May 3 and was officially unveiled at a dedication ceremony on Wednesday.
