With uncertainty looming in Boise State's football program after a disappointing loss to Memphis, the Broncos have opted for a change, at quarterback.

The Broncos are opting for a two-quarterback system, in which Taylen Green and Maddux Madsen will see similar amounts of game time versus San Jose State.

"We’re going to find the right mix" head coach Andy Avalos said. "If we use two quarterbacks, which we plan to in this next game, it wouldn't be the first time that it's been done. To be honest with you, I don't see a problem with that. It's what's best for the team and it's what's able for us to be efficient throughout the course of the game.”

Offensive Coordinator Bush Hamdan said that the entire playbook as at the disposal of both Green and Madsen.

"They'll both be receiving the full playbook, and what they do with that's obviously up to us," Hamdan said.

Avalos and Hamdan said that the switch was due to Madsen's impressive play in the 4th quarter versus Memphis, along with his strong outings late versus North Dakota and UCF.

"The reality is Maddux has played well enough to deserve an opportunity," Hamdan said. "You look at what he's done in limited time. He's got a four touchdown, no interception ratio. He's got a QB rating over 190."

Boise State typically does an 80/20 split when it comes to first-team reps during a practice week. This week, it will look much different.

"It will be closer to that 50-50 number," Hamdan said.

Some will also point to Green's numbers, which are currently trailing behind the marks he set last year, when he led Boise state to a Mountain West Championship Game berth and conference Freshman of the Year honors.

"Obviously, it's not something any everyday starter wants to hear," Hamdan said about Green.

Hamdan said that Green has handled the situation professionally, wanting what's best for the team. He also didn't shy away of how much of a role Green will still play.

"I think a critical thing for him to is, he's playing on Saturday man," Hamdan said. "He's going out there and he's got to be ready to roll. And he will."

Madsen and Green play the same position, but they play it vastly differently. Green has used his 20 mile an hour speed to blow past defenses, forcing defenses to respect his rushing ability, while Madsen is more of a traditional pocket passer.

Despite the differences in playstyle, running back Ashton Jeanty, who leads the nation in touchdowns (12 as of Oct. 3), has faith that both quarterbacks can deliver.

"Both guys are great and it doesn't change anything for me," Jeanty said. "I still have a job to do regardless of who is in, and I have full confidence in whoever's out there to make plays for us."

It's still uncertain as to who will come on for the Broncos' first offensive series Saturday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. with the game being televised on the CBS Sports Network.

It's Homecoming Weekend for the Broncos. Less than 400 tickets remain for the game as of 2 p.m. Oct. 3. Here's a link to buy tickets.
