Bubba Wallace was hit with very heavy shots by Kyle Petty recently over his refusal to give interviews to the press ahead of the final regular season race in Daytona. While Petty is known to be very blunt with his statements, his particular comments on Wallace were over the line even for him as he soon went back on them. Wallace replied to these comments on Thursday during the media day for the Cup Series Playoffs.
Wallace clarified that he had already fulfilled his media obligations before the race on Wednesday over a Zoom call. Wallace said that he was purely focused on the task at hand, qualifying for the playoffs, and does not see talking to the media as much of a priority. Wallace emphasized that he was in a very stressful position, one which was very new to him. Therefore, he had to prioritize.
“As much as talking to media is really important, I’m sorry [but] y’all don’t pay my bills… So, for it to offend people that I declined an interview … I didn’t really decline. We did our obligations and we made sure we were focused on the task at hand, which was the most important thing,” said Wallace.

Bubba Wallace opens up about how he feels ahead of starting of the Playoffs
Bubba Wallace was the last driver to get through to the round of 16 in the NASCAR Cup Series. Battling Daniel Suarez in the last race for the final spot, Wallace joined his teammate Ty Gibbs and team co-owner Denny Hamlin in the post-season rounds. As the Playoffs look to kick off at Darlington this Sunday, Wallace has opened up about how he feels going into his first career playoffs.
Wallace was seen to be very optimistic as he said that there was no reason why they could not finish in the top eight or top four. Wallace was also seen hugging team co-owner Michael Jordan after the race in Daytona, who was more than thrilled for Wallace to have qualified. Wallace revealed that Jordan travels to see all their races and is a big fan.
“There’s no reason why we can’t be better in the top eight, top four. So I definitely feel good about that… We know we’re well capable of being better than 16th. So we just have to go out and do what we need to do,” said Wallace.
