Former Label Exec David Kapralik Passes

MAUI, Hawaii (CelebrityAccess) — David Kapralik, a label exec who played a key role in the discovery of Barbara Streisand, has died at the age of 91.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kapralik's nephew Erik Liberman said he died Wednesday at his home in Maui, Hawaii.

A native of New Jersey, Kapralik first saw Striesand performing on the on CBS' The Garry Moore Show, and convinced Columbia president Goddard Lieberson to watch the singer perform live when she opened for Borscht Belt comic "Fat" Jack Leonard at a gig in Brooklyn.

Lieberson would go on to sign Streisand to her first record deal with Columbia.

Kapralik later launched his own management company, which signed Sly and the Family Stone to their first record deal.

Kapralik was survived by three nieces as well as six grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
