Greylan James is making the first move… in person.
The budding singer/songwriter finds himself breaking modern-day barriers of inauthentically flirting online, to instead, roll the dice and talk to a girl in person with his latest single “Who Broke Up With You.”
Available to stream wherever you listen to music, the upbeat, made-for-summer track was co-written by James alongside Brad Clawson and Ashley Gorley and was, according to a press release, “made for the 20-somethings who dare to put themselves out there and make the moment count when the opportunity arrives.”
“I’ve been counting down the days to this song dropping, and I couldn’t be more through the roof with excitement about it finally being out there,” said Greylan said in a statement. “This song is for anyone who is better off without the person that didn’t know what they had when they had it. Y’all crank it up loud for me.”
“Who Broke Up With You” marks Greylan’s first song release since his winning “Song of the Year” at the 2024 ACM Awards for co-writing Jordan Davis‘ smash hit “Next Thing You Know” and the follow-up to his standout, personal debut “Young Man,” which was dedicated to his late grandfather that gifted him his first guitar at the age of five.
“I actually got to know Jordan’s brother Jacob [Davis] really well before I ever met Jordan. We wrote hundreds of songs together and he was like, ‘man you you need to meet my brother Jordan,'” Greylan tells Celeb Secrets of how he connected with the chart-topper. “We finally got together, wrote a few songs and then Jordan was going in the studio one last time before he recorded the last song on his album.”
“We sat down, wrote that song and thought nobody was ever gonna hear it. We were obviously wrong about that because that song changed our lives,” he continues.
A promising future is on the horizon for the Knoxville native, as the multi-hyphenate will continue to keep writing — and hopefully releasing — great songs people care about.
“I think that ‘Next Thing You Know’ really showed be what real country songs can do for people in their daily lives, and just writing real songs people can live their lives to every single day is my goal,” he shares. “I also want to write songs people can drink to on a boat… it’s called balance.”
Speaking of sentimental songs, Greylan is continuing the story he began with “Next Thing You Know” with an unreleased track titled “Wait Til You Have Kids.” Teasing the country tune on social media earlier this summer, the heartfelt ballad received a ton of comments from fans begging him to release a full version — which he says may come sooner rather than later.
“I’m talking to my record label like as we speak about releasing that song, so thank you for bringing it up,” he shared with a smile during our interview backstage at CMA Fest 2024 earlier this summer.
“Growing up, I was around a massive family, and I just got the imagination to write songs that talk about that because there’s not really a lot of songs that discuss family in real life and that’s a huge part of our daily lives. If I get to write a song like that, it’s the sequel by circumstance. I’m excited about it,” he continues.
Up next, Greylan will hit the road with Ashley Cooke as direct support on her your place Tour later this year. Kicking off this fall and continuing into early 2025, the 17-date run will make stops in major markets across the country including Chicago, New York City and more.
