IDAHO CITY, Idaho (CBS 2) — You've often heard the saying, 'one man's trash is another man's treasure,’ well, the BoCo Sluice Box is a mecca of treasures waiting to be explored.
For today's Idaho Adventure, we take you to Idaho City to explore one of the most iconic buildings around.
The original Sluice Box was opened some 50 years ago by Larry and Ruthie Carter, and was operated as an antique and second hand store.
The buildings' unique exterior is appealing to visitors, and whether it's open or not, there's plenty for folks to look at.
The store was closed for nearly 15 years until the new owner, Lisa Hanson, bought in 2014 and reopened shortly after.
A lot of cleanup has already been done to get the property reopened but Lisa says, she's still baffled at what items customers bring up to buy.
"People grab something, bring it up to buy it and I’ll say, 'Where in the world did that come from? How did you find that? I've never seen that, you must be a good hunter.' because, there are just so many things to be found still," says Hanson.
The BoCo Sluice Box is usually open Friday through Sunday from Mother's Day weekend through October.
You can follow them on Facebook to find out when they hold occasional 'pop-up' days throughout the year.
