What Watch Does Gordon Ramsay Wear?

When working in the kitchen, everything seems to need to be timed, from when the ticket comes in, to how long your pasta is on the stove, to how long your meat has been on the plate waiting for the potatoes to get dished up. It’s fair to say that when working in a kitchen, time is crucial. What watch does Gordon Ramsay wear?

Gordon Ramsay is a big fan of watches and wears more than one, though not at the same time. His favorite appears to be the Rolex Submariner, and who can blame him, it’s a Rolex, plus he can wear it when training for triathlons

Several years ago Ramsay went out and purchased a vintage Rolex Submariner watch for himself as a Christmas present. While some may purchase the vintage watch and keep it on display, or safely tucked away, Ramsay wears his in everyday life

History of Watches

The first timepieces to be worn were a mix between a clock and a watch as we know it now. Though humans have been telling time since primitive days, by focusing on the position of the sun, it wasn’t until the 15th century that a portable timepiece was available. The wristwatch followed approximately one hundred years later.

Not much changed for hundreds of years when it came to wristwatches. Sure, there were different designs, but even then, they were relatively similar, for the most part.

Then, in the 1950s things started to change in watches, with the creation of the electric watch. In 1969 the quartz watch was created, powered by a battery. Then, in the mid-1970s came the digital face watch. And now we have the smartwatch, such as Apple Watch or Samsung’s Galaxy Watch.

It’s interesting to see that for hundreds of years there wasn’t much change, and then all of a sudden, within a few decades, massive changes have occurred, propelling us into the future.

Rolex

When it comes to watches, one of the most prolific brand names is Rolex. Due to their price tag, often costing five figures, Rolexes have become a status symbol, with people having them on their bucket lists.

Not everyone will end up with a Rolex, and that’s one of the things that makes this brand so exclusive. But, if you’re Gordon Ramsay, not only do you own one Rolex, you own several. The chef appears to have as big of a passion with watches as he does with cooking, and again like cooking, he shows great taste.

The company began in 1905 when Hans Wilsdorf wanted to create a wearable wristwatch that was accurate. At the time, the wristwatches of the day were notorious for not being reliable. He set out to find the best people to work with to come up with the best watch possible.

He succeeded. Not only was he able to create a watch with precise timing, but he also became the first person to create a waterproof watch, The Oyster, which is a line that is still available today from Rolex.

Not a One Trick Pony

Gordon Ramsay may have several Rolex watches, but they aren’t the only watches that he has in his arsenal. He is also a fan of Breitling watches, owning multiple of these as well, such as a Breitling Chrono Avenger M1 and a Breitling Chronomat Longitude A20048. The Breitling watches are less expensive at only four figures.

If I was worth over $220 million I would have a collection of watches as well, with a couple of Rolexes thrown in for sure. Despite his net worth, he’s not generally flashy so nobody can fault him for wanting to wear expensive watches. Especially when they are as elegant in design as the ones he chooses, even for everyday wear.
